Anthony Brown's father was also Anthony Brown, a contractor (and later, a stevedore) born in Newcastle, and his mother was Jane Isabella.

He attended the High School from 1894 to 1901, when he left to go to Barnard Castle school.

On leaving school, Anthony became a stevedore manager.

After that, little is known about him, other than he rose to be a Captain with the Transport Division of the Army Service Corps, and is believed to have survived the war.
