Lindsay Wardle Donald was the son of John Wardle Donald, and his first wife Jane Maria, whom he married in 1892.

John was a South Shields architect, remembered for designing The Britannia pub and Mortimer Road Infants & Juniors Schools.

Lindsay's mother died in February 1895, and hi s father remarried in 1899 to Jane Maria Corder.

Lindsay attended the High School from 1902 to 1906, before leaving to attend a boarding school in Malvern.

During the war, Lindsay served with the Northumberland Fusiliers as 2nd Lieutenant, but received the Silver War Badge on 11-Dec-1916, meaning that he was honourably discharged.

However, later records show that by mid-1918 he had joined the Royal Air Force as a temporary 2nd Lieutenant, and in April, 1919, was given a promotion to Lieutenant, back-dated to August, 1918.

Not much is known about him after that, although he married Irene Brenda Forster on 10-Oct-1919 in London "by Science" (without banns) and, in 1940 he is once again with the Royal Air Force as a probationary Pilot Officer, and by September, 1941, was a Flying Officer.

Lindsay died in Surrey in 1961.
