Lawrence Edwards was the son of James Harry and Mary Annie Edwards, and the younger brother of James Harry Edwards who also attended the High School, and who was killed in the war.

His father was Managing Director of Middle Dock, in South Shields.

Lawrence was initially educated at home, and then joined the High School in 1904, at the age of 7. Then, In March 1910, like his brother, James, he went to Uppingham School.

After only a few months at Uppingham, Lawrence was "invalided home" and rejoined the High School on 4-Sep-1911. But he left again in that December, and is believed to have returned to Uppingham School.

Lawrence joined the Northumberland Fusiliers, and served in Palestine in 1917.

He gained his commission as 2nd Lieutenant in February, 1915, and was raised to Temporary Lieutenant in June. In August, 1916, he became Temporary Captain, which was later made substantive.

Lawrence is believed to have survived the war, and to have died in Newcastle in 1968.
