Edward Stanley Charlton was the son of Edward S Fenwick, a "House Furnisher" in Wellington Terrace, South Shields, and his wife, Esther F Fenwick.

He entered the High School in 1901 at the same time as his brother, Harold Charlton Fenwick - his other brother, Clennell Cooke Fenwick was also at the school.

Edward left in 1906 to go to Denstone College in Staffordshire, where Harold was studying.

He joined the Northumberland Fusiliers, and was later transferred to the Labour Corps.

Edward survived the war, and died in Cleadon in October, 1938.
