collecting supplies at Rothbury Hall.
Candles, logs, batteries + hot food and drinks.

Army assisting with many volunteers.

BOYS HIGH SCHOOL. (1951-58).

Mike still having a 'frantic' time in Northumberland. Army has described the storm-suffering as the most 'resilient' of people. i.e. resident 'Geordies'.

Six-hundred properties still without power and flooded roads. More to come!

Sutton Dances.

I don't recall the "kids" afternoon dances but the Saturday evening adults event was very well attended - probably the sprung floor was a great attraction for the serious dancers. The Friday evening teenagers dance was the one that we both recalled.

Don't remember the swimming club at all.

No storm damage at the school but flooding in the town.

Army arrives in the North-East to help residents still without power after storm Arwen. Major incidents declared in County Durham.

Hi Bruce,
My new computer should be operational by the weekend--What a faff!!

I seem to remember two regular dances at the Sutton Hall: one for kids in the afternoon,admission 3d, and an evening dance for older residents.
Do you remember the Sutton Hall swimming club? There was an arrangement with Derby St Baths where we had a 1hr session each week. The swimming instructer at the Baths was Les Mordue who you may remember from the Sutton.

Studies included William Shakespeare ...
'If music be the love of life play on'.

Memories of Mr. Jackaman who 'kindled'
our appreciation of music. Although his was something of a 'Cinderella Dept.' he
made it play in the life of the school.
He gained his Diploma in the School of Music of the Royal College of Music.

Remember your Dad on the piano accordion vividly, Alan.

And the beauty of those old fashioned dances was that you actually got to meet the girls.

Afterwards you could always wander down Prince Edward road to the chippy next to Minchellas - if you had any money!!

Can't remember if we had to pay to get in to the dance?
